The Critical Key Ingredient In Your Network Marketing Business

Hey, my friends, today I want to talk to you about something that is critical to building your network marketing business. Actually, it is critical to everything you do, in life as well as in business. This is foundational to having true success in your network marketing business and in your life and it is a good exercise to do on a continuing basis.

Over the course of the last two years, I have studied and have had many conversations with close friends of mine about this topic. And the result of those conversations, and the notes I took, is the inspiration for this blog post, especially the many talks I have had with my good friend, colleague and mentor, Paul McGarry, who is an incredible professional life coach and self–development expert.

Knowing Your Core Reason For Building Your Network Marketing Business Is The Key

Let’s talk about discovering what drives you. In other words, what is your WHY? This is probably the single most important question you can ask yourself. Because without knowing the answer to this question, everything you do with your blog, your network marketing business, your Internet marketing, and your attraction marketing funnels, really doesn't matter. If you haven’t done this already, then it is imperative that you take the time right now to complete a very simple exercise to help you discover your WHY, your REAL reason for doing whatever it is you are doing; the REAL reason you joined your network marketing company; the REAL reason you are doing attraction marketing and creating your blog. Is it really all about the money?

Now this is not something you should rush through and do quickly or haphazardly. You can do this simple exercise in as little as twenty minutes, but I recommend you give yourself a lot of time to really develop your WHY. Take a few days, maybe a few weeks, or even a couple of months, to work on this and really drill down to your core desire. When you encounter those challenging experiences, it is that core desire that will provide the emotional energy that will sustain you on your journey as you build your network marketing business.

Simply stated, until you know your WHY, the HOW doesn't matter. This must become your first priority, even before setting goals. Without knowing what your WHY is, you will not be able to effectively convey the excitement and passion you need to have when writing your blog posts, inviting potential partners to your network marketing company, creating your sales funnels, or whatever it is you are trying to do. Ask any top leader and income earner in network marketing and they will tell you that your REASON for pursuing a network marketing business is critical to your success.

So many people, including myself, skip this step, seeing it as a waste of their time. Here is the problem with that: If you don't go through this simple exercise, you may never develop the mental strength you’ll need to get past the challenges, the struggles, and the setbacks that are certain to come your way. There is a very good chance that you will become discouraged, and even give up and quit your network marketing company at the first obstacle you encounter. You'll be wrestling with the thought of whether the effort to jump in and do this is really worth it.

In Acts 20, the Apostle Paul writes,

"But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God."

It’s keeping your sights on the finish line, on finishing the race, which makes all the effort worth it. And Paul should know, considering what he suffered through to proclaim the Gospel in the early days of the church.

Do you know the reason why people fail, especially in network marketing? They quit on their dreams! Especially when life starts beating them up and things get tough. Don’t you know that if you never quit on your dreams, then your destination is almost certainly inevitable? For example, my journey to get to where I am today, building a successful network marketing business, and getting this blog up, was filled with difficulties. From trees falling on our house, taking care of sick parents and experiencing the death of a loved one, if it wasn’t for the fact that I knew my WHY, you would not be reading this post today.

So yes, there will be challenges along the way, you can count on it. Thinking otherwise is foolish. Your real challenge is changing the way you think about what you are doing, whatever that may be. You must treat it as if your life depended on it. Seriously! Another way of looking at it is as if you had just invested your life savings into it. Now if you just invested your life savings into something (like a network marketing business, perhaps?), how would you treat it? Would you give up and quit when things got tough? Well, would you? I didn’t think so. If you want that mental toughness you’ll need to be successful, then you must take ownership of your dreams and desires.

It is amazing to me how people give up and quit on their dreams so easily. What they fail to realize is they didn't take the time to discover their WHY. Their PURPOSE and REASON were not strong enough for them to continue in network marketing. They didn't have the strength mentally to push forward and see past the challenges that lay before them.

Here is a famous quote that sums up everything we’ve talked about thus far and I have to thank my friend Paul McGarry for reminding me of it. You are all familiar with these famous words spoken by Winston Churchill in what is probably one of the greatest speeches ever given:

“Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never – in nothing, great or small, large or petty – never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”

When it comes to your WHY, Paul shared it with me this way: "It’s your WHY that supplies the fuel – the fire within you… that creates the excitement and provides the passion you need to stay connected to your dreams. Your WHY needs to be strong enough to give you the determination to overcome the frustrations you will face in your pursuit of success. Don’t fool yourself into believing you won’t have frustrations… you WILL have frustrations. You’ll have good days and bad days. It’s how you deal with those frustrations that determines your level of success." Thanks Paul for stating it so clearly. (You should check out Paul’s blog for even more incredible life teachings.)

A Simple Exercise That Will Have A Huge Dramatic Effect On The Success Of Your Network Marketing Business

So, we now know that our “WHY” is the driving force behind our decisions to build our network marketing business (or any business, for that matter) and pursue our desires. It is the deep and personal reason that keeps you motivated and sustains you as you reach for your dreams. So, how do you determine your "Why?" Basically, you need to answer the following questions: Why? What? When? Where? Who? And How? And really dig deep when writing your answers. You need to get to your core being.

Let’s first start with the WHAT: What kind of legacy do you want to leave your children? What kind of financial support do you want to provide for your loved ones? In what ways do you want to leave the world a better place? What is the juice, the passion, that makes your life worth living? What do you really want out of life? If you had all the money you could ever need, what would you do with all that money? What would it do for you? What kind of network marketing company do you want to work with? What is it about that network marketing company that makes you want to be a part of their success story?

Now let’s tackle the WHY: Why do you want financial freedom? Why do you want to live your dreams? Who will you be and what qualities will you have? Who will you be with? What contributions will you make? What actions will you take? (I know, these are WHAT questions!) Why do you want more quality time with your family? Why are you doing this network marketing business? Why are you doing a blog? Why do you want to be honored, receive recognition, or be respected? Why do you want to gain control of your life? Why did you choose to build a network marketing business? Why did you choose the network marketing company you are current with or are considering joining?

Your goal here is to create a powerful vision for yourself, so be specific. Write out what your perfect day would be like if there were no limitations or consequences (such as financial, health, etc). Basically, when you have achieved the success you desire. Where would you live? What would your house look like? What time would you get up? What would you do in the morning? Who would you do it with? What would you eat for breakfast? What would your friends be like? What would the mundane stuff look like? Go through the whole day. The more you figure this out, the more specific you get with this and the clearer you become about your vision, the more your enthusiasm will become contagious to your blog readers, your network marketing prospects, and your team members.

Are you getting the picture here?

Is your WHY to spend more quality time with your family and children? Is it to travel the world? Is it to help starving, poverty-stricken children in Brazil? Do you want to give to charities? Do you want to go on mission trips with your church? Or do you just want to come and go as you please? What ever it is, that is your WHY.

Here are some more questions to ask yourself: If money is your main motivator, why is money so important to you? Is it to get out of debt? If so, why is getting out of debt so important to you? Is it to buy a new house, car or boat? Why are those things important to you? Why did you choose network marketing as the vehicle to achieve these goals?

You need to dig, people! Continue this process until you move away from materialistic things. What is it that drives you deep within? You may find that it has nothing to do with money. Search your heart. Tell you mind to shut-up! This is where you will find your answer and discover your WHY.

My friend Paul reminded me the other day that once you get your heart involved in your network marketing business, it will be easy to train your mind to follow. When both your mind and heart are on the same page, when they are joined together as one, you will find that things will begin to harmoniously work together for your benefit. In other words, once you’ve discovered your WHY, you'll figure out the HOW!
